چکیده

The routine radiographic examination by orthopantomography of the jaws of all dental patients is necessary and justifiable. To evaluated the possible radiographical marker in edentulous for identification. To determine the age and gender from different parameters of radiographs. Study was conducted on 103 orthopantomograms of edentulous patients, aged (55-76 years). All radiolucencies or radioopacities in premolar to posterior alveolar ridge were observed. Different parameters such as; height of mandibular body, distance between lower mandible border to superior margin of mental foramina. The distance between the superior margin of mental foramina to crest of the alveolar ridge and the from the lower border to crest of alveolar ridge. Identification markers were found in 23.8 percent cases. Age was directly related to alveolar ridge in both males and females. Distance between crest of alveolar ridge and superior margin of mental foramina may be used for gender and sex determination.

Extraction of Teeth Shapes from Orthopantomograms for Forensic Human Identification

Dental biometrics are commonly used in the process of forensic human identification. In order to automatize the identification, a method of extracting and comparing dental features from digital radiograms was developed by the creators of Automated Dental Identification System (ADIS). In this paper, a novel method of extracting teeth shapes from extraoral radiograms, known as orthopantomograms, ...

Identification of a sex-linked SCAR marker for Plecoglossus altivelis and its application for identifying gender in cultivated and wild populations

Ayu (Plecoglossus altivelis), one kinds of valuable cultured fish species, show almost no morphological difference between male and female until sexual maturity. Here, we report the identification of sex-linked markers for the ayu, based on Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphism (AFLP) generated from cultured fish (15 males and 15 females) by using 63 different primer combinations. Genomic frag...
